ATLANTA RESIDENTS ASK: HOW LONG WILL MY BOTOX® RESULTS LAST?

In Alphaville’s famous 1984 hit, the band crooned about the shared human desire to stay forever young. While no magic elixir to immortality has yet been found, the closest we’ve discovered is Botox® and its ability to make its patients look seemingly younger despite the natural aging process. Most people know a decent amount about the benefits of Botox® but how long do Botox® results last? Can it really make one stay forever young?

How Long Will My Botox® Results Last?

When a treated muscle is paralyzed, the motion causing wrinkles ceases, allowing the skin to smooth out within 3 to 10 days. These results typically last 3 to 4 months or more but may wear off sooner in first-time patients. It can take multiple Botox® treatments before your muscles become accustomed and respond to the botulinum toxin. After several sessions, results will gradually begin to last longer, as the skin has been given more time to regenerate the collagen needed to fill in fine lines and wrinkles.

Factors Affecting How Long Botox® Lasts

While you can generally depend on the timeframe mentioned above, there are several factors that may affect the longevity of your specific Botox® results. The dilution of the dosage can play a major role in how long your Botox® results last. The more concentrated a solution is, the more exact the treatment is that is being administered. However, a more dilute treatment of Botox® will allow the solution to diffuse through the surrounding areas. While this may be more effective for those that would benefit from the migration of the product, it also means that the results will not last as long. In addition, metabolism plays an important role in the durability of your Botox® results. Athletes and those who are very physically active tend to metabolize the toxin at a higher rate, eliminating it from the body in a shorter amount of time. The freshness of the product and the area it is being injected to should also be taken into consideration. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Killingsworth is an expert at providing his patients with beautiful and lasting results following their Botox® treatments.
