BOTOX® Cosmetic Atlanta

BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments

BOTOX® is a popular cosmetic injectable to reduce the signs of aging. BOTOX® injections can achieve immediate, natural-looking improvements to your facial profile. Unlike traditional facial surgery, BOTOX® is completely non-invasive, meaning patients do not need to contend with stitches, incisions, or lengthy recovery times. Killingsworth Center for Plastic Surgery offers BOTOX® treatment in Atlanta for patients who would like to restore youthfulness to their expressions.*

The appearance of frown lines and prominent wrinkles can result in an aged appearance. Although facial surgery offers a long-lasting solution, some patients prefer to improve the signs of aging without having to undergo a surgical procedure. Wrinkle treatments, also known as muscle relaxants or anti-wrinkle injections, are commonly used for facial enhancement, and they offer an effective non-invasive alternative for reducing fine lines and revitalizing the facial profile.*

BOTOX® injections are among the most popular minimally invasive treatments in the United States. Botulinum toxin can treat wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes by selectively limiting the movement of various facial muscles. Wrinkles are formed when nerve cells found in a muscle produce the chemical “acetylcholine”, which causes the muscle to contract. BOTOX® treats dynamic wrinkling by targeting the underlying nerve impulses. BOTOX® injections block the signal from specific nerves to the specific muscle, which disrupts the release of acetylcholine and paralyzes the muscle to prevent wrinkles. There are also often tiny muscle fibers in or just below the skin, and when a small amount of diluted BOTOX® is carefully injected, it can affect the tiny fibers and smooth the skin without significantly reducing movement.*

Approved by the FDA in 2002, BOTOX® is part of a class of drugs called neuromodulators. These injections use botulinum toxin type A to decrease muscle activity in treatment area. The active ingredient in these products (botulinum toxin type A) has been used for decades to treat conditions in children such as strabismus (lazy eye) and to loosen muscles for those who need physical therapy for cerebral palsy. For adults, BOTOX® has been approved for important clinical uses in patients who have chronic TMJ and facial pain, treatment of leaky bladder (overactive bladder), and a neurological movement disorder that causes severe neck and shoulder contractions known as cervical dystonia.*

There are several brands and types of botulinum toxin-based injectables on the market, including BOTOX®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and Dysport® (all three derived from botulinum toxin type A), as well as Myobloc (derived from botulinum type B).*

Although BOTOX® has been used for many different purposes over the years, it is best known for its ability to:

  • Treat facial lines caused by action muscles
  • Treat worry or scowl lines between your eyebrows (glabella)
  • Treat crow’s feet wrinkles around the corners of the eyes
  • Treat horizontal lines on your forehead
  • Treat muscles under your chin
  • Elevate the brows with a “BOTOX® Brow Lift”
  • Treat chin creases caused by overactive muscles
  • Treat wrinkles around the lips

At Killingsworth Center for Plastic Surgery, we offer BOTOX® treatments, as well as other cosmetic injectables and fillers, to rejuvenate your facial appearance and achieve natural-looking results. We realize how busy people are today and that is why we offer quick, non-invasive procedures (sometimes referred to as “lunch-hour” treatments) that can give you a more youthful and refreshed appearance so you can resume your normal routine immediately after your procedure. Many of these treatments can also be utilized to reduce the signs of aging on your hands, smooth lines that form on the neck, and even reduce excessive sweating in areas such as the underarms. During your consultation, we will discuss your treatment goals to determine if BOTOX® injections are right for you.*

The entire BOTOX® procedure is relatively simple and takes only ten to fifteen minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. The discomfort is minimal, and most patients report a light stinging sensation with each injection. BOTOX® is usually performed without topical anesthesia; however, it is available if necessary, and ice can also be applied before the injection to numb the area. Although BOTOX® is injected into the facial muscles, it does not affect the muscle itself, but instead blocks the transmitters between the motor nerves that innervate the muscle. As a result, there is no loss of sensory feeling. Once the motor nerve endings are interrupted, the muscle cannot contract. When the treated muscle is paralyzed, the dynamic motion that causes wrinkles in the skin stops.*

During your BOTOX® procedure, our professionals will create a customized treatment plan designed specifically for you. If you need a higher or lower dose in a particular area, we can adjust the dose to achieve your desired results.*

Approximately three to ten days after treatment, the skin above the treated muscles should smooth and the results should continue to be apparent for three to four months (in some cases six months or longer), depending on your individual response to the treatment. There is often a long-lasting benefit even after your BOTOX® injection as the lack of repetitive contraction means muscles become less powerful, causing your skin to wrinkle less. The results of BOTOX® can be dramatic and obvious to you, but subtle to others. BOTOX® injections can help patients look more rested and relaxed.*

The cost of BOTOX® treatments is based on the amount of product needed to achieve optimum results. During your consultation, we will determine how much BOTOX® is necessary to effectively soften your fine lines and wrinkles. We provide a detailed cost after the consultation, and you can pay for treatment via cash, personal check, credit card, CareCredit®, and Alphaeon® Credit financing.
