Breast Augmentation Atlanta
Breast augmentation can improve breast size and add natural-looking volume using breast implants.* Having breasts that are too small for your frame or otherwise out of proportion with the rest of your body may make you feel less attractive and self-conscious. Dr. Christopher Killingsworth and his plastic surgery team offer breast augmentation for Atlanta patients who want larger, fuller-looking breasts.*
WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY?
Breast augmentation is the most desired plastic surgery procedure performed annually in the United States. Breast augmentation is a popular choice because it can improve breast shape and size to give a patient a more proportional figure, along with the attractive curves she has always desired. Although approximately 80% of women who request enlargements do so for cosmetic reasons, the remaining 20% account for medical reasons, such as the need for a reconstructed breast after suffering from breast cancer.*
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BREAST AUGMENTATION?*
Women choose to have breast augmentation surgery for many reasons. Opting for breast implants may be right for you if you feel your breasts are:
- Too small
- Different in size
- Deflated after pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Smaller after childbirth
- Not full enough
Breast augmentation can also help with:
- Restoring breast volume after significant weight loss
- Correcting changes to shape or size from the natural aging process
- Reconstruction and augmentation after injury or illness
* Patients Individual Results May Vary.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?
During your initial breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Killingsworth and his plastic surgery team will thoroughly assess your physical and emotional health and discuss your specific cosmetic goals for breast augmentation. Our plastic surgeons will evaluate the size and shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin, and the placement of your nipples and areolas to determine the best treatment plan for you. In some cases, we may recommend additional cosmetic procedures to improve your overall results. If it is determined that you are a good candidate for breast augmentation, our plastic surgeons will explain all of your breast implant options along with the details of your surgery, as well as any possible complications and risks involved. Dr. Killingsworth and his plastic surgery team realize that every woman is unique in both her desires and anatomy; that is why we will take the necessary time to understand your expectations and customize a treatment plan designed exclusively for you.
WHAT TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS ARE AVAILABLE?
Most women have an idea of what they want their new breasts to look like, and in order to achieve that look, the proper size and shape of the breast implant must be selected. Today’s breast implants are made from either saline or silicone. Both implant types are approved as safe to use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and each breast implant option offers its own advantages.
Saline-filled implants are made of a silicone outer shell, and they are filled with a saltwater solution that is easily absorbed by the body in case of an implant rupture. Saline breast implants are filled after undergoing the implant placement, so they require a smaller incision. Saline-filled implants are slightly firmer, so they do have a greater chance of rippling. Silicone breast implants are composed of a silicone outer shell filled with a thick, silicone gel. This type of implant is known for its natural appearance and feel, and there is less chance of visible rippling – although they do require a larger incision. During your consultation, Dr. Killingsworth and his plastic surgery team can help you decide which type of breast implant is right for you.
HOW IS BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY PERFORMED?
Breast augmentation is typically performed using general anesthesia (although, in some cases, other options are available). Breast implant surgery typically lasts one to two hours depending on the extent of the surgery.* One of the most important operative decisions of breast augmentation is the forming of the implant pockets where your plastic surgeon will create space for your breast implants to be inserted. These pockets are the foundation for your new breasts and achieving proper structure requires a small release of the chest muscle (pectoralis major), which creates a more beautiful breast shape. Your plastic surgeon will make the incisions for your breast augmentation in inconspicuous places to minimize scar visibility.* The different types of breast implant incisions include:
- Transaxillary Incision: Located in the armpit
- Inframammary Incision: Located in the crease on the underside of the breast
- Periareolar Incision: Located around the areola (the dark skin around the nipple)
After the incision is made, your breast implants will be inserted and this placement will determine the way the breasts will project themselves after your breast augmentation surgery. Placing the breast implant above the muscle (sub-glandular) can produce a more rounded, fuller look that many women choose even though it may not look as natural. Placing the implant underneath the chest wall muscle (sub-muscular) is more common and can achieve a natural, shaped look.* After the implants have been inserted and positioned, the incisions will be stitched closed, taped, and bandaged. Within a few days, the bandages will be replaced with a surgical bra.*
It is normal to feel tired and sore after your breast augmentation surgery. These side effects typically subside in a few days with most patients returning to work after one week. For many women, the results of breast augmentation surgery can be exhilarating as they learn to appreciate their new, voluptuous appearance.*
Through careful planning and precise surgical technique, our breast augmentation surgeons can help create the breasts you have always dreamed of. Breast implant surgery can achieve natural-looking breasts, with an appropriate size, shape, and feel that fits harmoniously with your overall frame and body type.*
