Killingsworth Center for Plastic Surgery is a leading liposuction practice in Atlanta that works with men and women to achieve a more contoured, toned body. Our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Killingsworth, uses innovative technology and various lipo techniques to give you an advantage over unwanted fat.*
WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that improves the contours and proportions of your figure by removing unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. As we get older, our bodies lose the ability to eliminate fat. Diet and exercise alone may not be enough to give you back a toned and tight body, but liposuction can!*
Some of the most common areas treated with liposuction include the chin, neck, arms, stomach, hips, back, love handles, buttocks, legs, knees, ankles, and the inner and outer thighs. Liposuction can also be used to treat gynecomastia (male breast reduction) that frequently occurs in both teenagers and adult men. Lipo surgery is not an alternative to weight loss; instead, liposuction can help achieve a smoother, trimmer body by removing areas of fat that are stubbornly resistant to diet and exercise.*
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LIPOSUCTION?*
Liposuction technology has changed over the years. Patients no longer experience the extensive downtime that was common when the procedure was first introduced to the field of plastic surgery. By using the most advanced liposuction techniques available, Dr. Killingsworth is able to:
- Minimize post-operative symptoms and recovery
- Remove fat with exceptional precision
- Maintain natural contours
- Treat every part of the body
* Patients Individual Results May Vary.
BEFORE & AFTER GALLERY
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LIPOSUCTION?
In order to be considered for liposuction, you should be close to your ideal weight, so Dr. Killingsworth will first discuss your diet and exercise routines. If you are a liposuction candidate, he will examine your fatty deposits to determine the best surgical approach. Dr. Killingsworth will explain how the procedure can improve your natural contours, as well as what you can expect after liposuction. Dr. Killingsworth advises his patients that while liposuction can remove the excess fat you currently have, the potential exists to have new fat develop around the treatment area. Consistent dieting and exercise will be recommended to help maintain your lipo results.*
WHAT ARE MY LIPOSUCTION OPTIONS?*
There are two primary types of liposuction: tumescent lipo and super-wet lipo. These techniques use different amounts of wetting solution to remove excess fat. The amount of wetting solution injected before the procedure varies depending on the liposuction method used. Tumescent liposuction is distinguished from the super-wet technique by the amount of fluid injected. Additionally, Dr. Killingsworth offers non-surgical liposuction using CoolSculpting® to improve body contours. Learn more about these liposuction procedures below:
- Super-Wet Liposuction: The wetting solution is equal to the volume of fat removed, and this technique requires intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia.
- Tumescent Liposuction: This wetting solution is two to three times the volume of fat removed, and this solution causes fat deposits to swell (tumescent). Tumescent liposuction is the most commonly used technique and requires either local anesthesia sedation or general anesthesia.
- CoolSculpting®: CoolSculpting® utilizes innovative cooling technology to target stubborn fat cells without the need for incisions or downtime. During this procedure, fat cells are targeted using cryolipolysis and naturally removed by your body. Learn more about CoolSculpting® treatment here.
HOW IS LIPO SURGERY PERFORMED?
Dr. Killingsworth will inject the desired amount of wetting solution (decided upon during your consultation) into the treatment area(s). The solution is comprised of salt water, epinephrine (a medication that shrinks blood vessels, helping to decrease bleeding and bruising), and a local anesthetic to temporarily minimize discomfort both during and after surgery. After the fluid has been injected, Dr. Killingsworth will make a small incision in your skin near the area that contains the fat targeted for removal. A narrow tube (cannula) that is attached to a vacuum pump will then be inserted through the incision into the area of excess fat. By manipulating the cannula back and forth through the fat, Dr. Killingsworth will remove the unwanted fat cells before closing the incision with sutures.*
Depending on a person’s individual healing capacity, liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure. Most patients return to work after a few days and resume normal activities within two weeks. The outcome will vary based on the area and volume of fat cells removed; your expected results will be discussed during your consultation, as well as how to best maintain your new body contours. The fat cells extracted during liposuction are removed, but it is important to remember that liposuction will not prevent you from gaining additional weight. To maintain your new figure following liposuction, we encourage patients to follow a healthy diet and regular exercise routine.*
