Tummy Tuck Atlanta
Tummy tuck surgery can restore a flatter, more toned midsection when diet and exercise are not enough to achieve the contoured results you want. A firm, tight abdomen is often desired by both men and women. As we age, however, the battle against tummy fat becomes more difficult. Small bulges of fat hide the hard work you put into slimming your midsection. If you have excess fat on your abdomen that is resistant to traditional weight loss methods, consider a tummy tuck in Atlanta.*
WHAT IS TUMMY TUCK SURGERY?
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to address stubborn fat deposits and excess skin of the midsection that can contribute to a lax, sagging appearance. Due to genetic predisposition, pregnancy, childbirth, weight loss, or the natural aging process, the muscles in the abdomen are often pushed apart and stretched out; this makes it exceptionally difficult for even the strictest diets and most rigorous exercise routines to re-tighten them. A tummy tuck can strengthen the core muscles of your stomach and remove extra skin to help you attain a flatter, firmer, and toned abdomen.*
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A TUMMY TUCK?*
A tummy tuck may not be right for you if you are looking for a way to lose weight. Rather, abdominoplasty surgery is for men and women who follow a proper diet and exercise, yet still have fatty bulges on the front and side of the abdomen. A tummy tuck can:
- Tighten the skin
- Make underlying muscles more taut
- Remove deposits of extra fat

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR ABDOMINOPLASTY?
During your initial consultation at Killingsworth Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Killingsworth will perform a thorough evaluation of your health (including your medical history) before assessing the laxity of your skin and determining the extent of excess tissue and fat deposits around your midsection. Dr. Killingsworth will encourage you to be specific about the changes you want and he will take the time to understand your procedure goals to determine if they are realistic. If you qualify as a candidate for abdominoplasty, Dr. Killingsworth will then customize a treatment plan designed to meet or exceed your expectations and goals.*
WHAT ARE MY TUMMY TUCK OPTIONS?*
The ideal option for your tummy tuck surgery will be discussed in detail during your consultation. While abdominoplasty surgery is not an alternative to a healthy weight loss program, it can be an effective option if you want firmer abdominal contours that are more proportional to your body type and weight.
There are three different types of tummy tuck procedures:
- Complete Tummy Tuck: During a complete abdominoplasty, an incision is made around the belly button, while another incision is made just above the pubis. Excess skin is removed and reshaped, while the underlying abdominal muscles are surgically tightened. Liposuction may also be performed to remove excess fat and sculpt a firmer-looking midsection.
- Mini Tummy Tuck: The mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure that requires an incision made above the pubis. This technique is ideal for patients with minimal amounts of loose abdominal skin. The mini abdominoplasty does not tighten underlying muscles like a traditional tummy tuck and does not require an incision around the navel.
- Circumferential Tummy Tuck: During circumferential abdominoplasty, skin and fat can be removed from the midsection and back. Abdominal muscles can be tightened and excess skin can be reshape for a firmer profile. A circumferential tummy tuck can accentuate lower body contours.
HOW IS ABDOMINOPLASTY PERFORMED?
In a traditional tummy tuck, Dr. Killingsworth will make a horizontal incision just above your pubic hairline; the length of the incision will be determined by the amount of excess fat and skin that you have. As he does in every surgery he performs, Dr. Killingsworth attempts to make the incision as discreet as possible so that any residual scarring can be easily camouflaged with clothing. Excess skin and fat is removed from the lower abdomen and the weakened underlying muscles are tightened, narrowing the waistline while firming the midsection. The remaining skin is pulled taut around the stomach and the incision is then closed with sutures.*
Often performed in combination with liposuction, a tummy tuck can greatly reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. After your abdominoplasty, your final results may be initially hidden by swelling. However, once your healing is complete (this may take several weeks or even months, depending on your healing capabilities), your new, slimmer profile should become apparent, so you can enjoy your tummy tuck results for years to come.*
